Note:  The Council will hold public comment on several items on Thursday, September 18, 2008, beginning at 2:00 p.m. as part of the meeting.  Comments will be accepted on the following:

2:00 p.m.    Shrimp Amendment 7 - addressing rock shrimp commercial permits and economic data reporting requirements for the South Atlantic shrimp fishery.

2:30 p.m.    Spiny Lobster Generic Import Amendment – a 3-council initiative addressing import requirements for spiny lobster.

3:00 p.m.    Snapper Grouper Amendment 16 – measures to end overfishing for gag grouper and vermilion snapper, including reductions in harvest through seasonal closures (including shallow water grouper), bag limit reductions, commercial quotas, and etc.

3:30 p.m.    Interim Rule (to address overfishing for red snapper and other snapper grouper species) – The Council will review draft language for an Interim Rule for a possible closure of the red snapper fishery to end overfishing and to also implement interim measures to end overfishing for gag, vermilion snapper, black grouper, and red grouper (as outlined in Amendment 16).  An Interim Rule would be effective for 180 days and may be extended for an additional 186 days.  The Council’s intent is to have Interim Rule regulations in place by January 2009.
