PROCLAMATION FF-36-2001
RE: RIVER HERRING
Preston P. Pate, Jr., Director, Division of Marine
Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 6:00 P.M., Thursday, April 26, 2001, the following restrictions
will apply to the harvest of river herring:
The season for harvest of river herring in the Chowan River
Herring Management Area with pound nets
is closed.
Chowan River Herring Management Area- that area northwest of
a line from Black Walnut Point at 36° 00' 00" N-76° 41' 00" W,
running 040° (M) to Reedy Point at 36° 02' 12" N-76° 39' 20" W, to
the North Carolina/Virginia State line, including the Meherrin River. (See Map)
A. This proclamation is issued under the
authority of G.S. 113-134; 113-181; 113-182; 113-221 (e); 143B-289.52 and N.C.
Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 3H .0103 and 3M .0513.
B. It is unlawful to violate the provisions of
any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority
per 15A NCAC 3H .0103.

The quota allocation for the pound net fishery in the Chowan River Herring
Management Area is 200,000 pounds. That quota is expected to be met on
Thursday, April 26, 2001.
