PROCLAMATION

RE: SMALL COASTAL SHARKS-COMMERCIAL FISHING OPERATIONS

Dr. Louis B. Daniel III, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 11:30 P.M., Tuesday, November 2, 2010 the following restrictions will apply to the harvest of small coastal sharks:

I. SEASON

The season for the harvest of blacknose and non-blacknose small coastal sharks (SCS) for commercial purposes will close. The SCS category of sharks includes Atlantic sharpnose, blacknose, finetooth, and bonnethead sharks.

II. GENERAL INFORMATION

A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52; and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 03H .0103 and 03M.0512.

B. It is unlawful to violate the provisions of any proclamation issued by the Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 03H .0103.

C. This intent of this proclamation is to comply with Amendment 3 of the National Marine Fisheries Service Consolidated Highly Migratory Species Fishery Management Plan. The season will close because 80 percent of the designated quotas are projected to have been met.

D. This proclamation supersedes Proclamation FF-56-2010, dated May 28, 2010, which opened the season.
