PROCLAMATION

 

RE:  2002 SHRIMPING AND CRAB TRAWLING                                       

 

Preston P. Pate, Jr., Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that the following areas will close to shrimping and crab trawling, effective at one hour before sunset Sunday, September 15, 2002:

 

BRUNSWICK/ NEW HANOVER COUNTIES

 

Cape Fear River - all waters north of a line beginning at the Oak Island lighthouse and running to the Bald Head Island lighthouse.

 

Atlantic Ocean - all waters enclosed by a line beginning at the foot of the Ocean Crest Pier running offshore three nautical miles to a point 33° 51’ 45”N – 78° 09’ 00”W then following the three mile limit to a point on Frying Pan Shoals 33° 46' 16" N - 77° 56' 24" W  then running to a point on the southeastern tip of Bald Head Island 33° 50' 29" N - 77° 57' 28" W then following the shore of Bald Head Island to the Bald Head lighthouse running to the Oak Island lighthouse and following the shore to the point of origin.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

 

a)     This proclamation is issued under the authority of G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5; 113-182; 113-221(e); 143B-289.52 and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 3H .0103; 3L .0101 and .0202.

 

b)     It is unlawful to violate the provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority per 15A NCAC 3H .0103.

 

c)     This action is being taken to protect small white shrimp that were forced into these areas.

 

d)     This proclamation supersedes portions of SH-2-2002, dated April 18, 2002 and SH-8-2002, dated July 9, 2002 which opened these areas.
