M-8-2006 RE: CHANNEL NETS Preston P. Pate , Jr., Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 8:00 A.M., Monday, July 31, 2006, all coastal fishing waters are open to shrimping with channel nets with the following exceptions: AREAS CLOSED TO CHANNEL NETS A. All waters bound on the north by the N.C. Highway 210-50 swing bridge at Surf City and on the south by a line beginning on the east side of the Intracoastal Waterway at 34° 25.6049'N, 77° 33.4116'W running to a point on the west side of the Intracoastal Waterway at 34° 25.7193'N, 77° 33.4649'W to include all areas on either side of the Intracoastal Waterway channel as shown on the attached map. B. New River- marked navigation channel from Marker #17 to New River Inlet. AREAS CLOSED TO CHANNEL NETS UNLESS OPENED TO SHRIMPING WITH OTHER GEARS C. New River above the Highway 172 Bridge. III. GENERAL INFORMATION A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5;113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52 and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 3H .0103, and 3J .0106. B. It is unlawful to violate the provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 3H .0103. C. This proclamation supersedes Proclamations M-8-97, dated May 27, 1997, M-9-97, dated June 26, 1997, and M-10-2001, dated June 1, 2001. It implements provisions in the N.C. Shrimp Fishery Management Plan adopted in April of 2006. The areas in II. A., B. and C. will open by proclamation throughout the season. July 12, 2006 |
