RS-6-2006 PROCLAMATION RE: RESEARCH SANCTUARY Preston P. Pate, Jr., Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 12:01 P.M., Thursday, October 19, 2006, the following areas are declared RESEARCH SANCTUARIES and ARE CLOSED to all fishing equipment: I. AREA DESCRIPTIONS CARTERET COUNTY - Bogue Sound A. Hoop Pole Creek #1 An area within 10 feet of a stake located at 34° 42.642’ N - 76° 45.252’ W. B. Hoop Pole Creek #2 An area bounded by four markers with research sanctuary signs located at the following points: 1. 34° 42.496’ N 76° 45.214’ W A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52; and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 3H .0103 and 3I .0109. B. It is unlawful to violate provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 3H .0103. C. Stakes and signs posted by the applicant will mark the area closed to fish and shellfish harvest. D. N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 3I .0109, specifies that this Research Sanctuary is in effect for one year, subject to renewal at the end of that year. This action is being taken to allow UNC Wilmington to conduct research concerning oyster production and fish utilization on created versus natural oyster reefs. |
