PROCLAMATION

RE: 2006 SHRIMPING AND CRAB TRAWLING

Preston P. Pate, Jr., Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 8:30 A.M., Friday, September 8, 2006, the following area will close to shrimping and crab trawling,

I. AREA DESCRIPTION

BRUNSWICK COUNTY

Atlantic Ocean - all waters enclosed by a line beginning at southeastern tip of Bald Head Island at a point 33° 50.4833’ N – 77°57.4667’ W running southerly to a point on Frying Pan Shoals 33° 46.2667' N - 77° 56.4000' W, then following the three mile limit to a point three miles offshore on the extension of the NC/SC border 33° 49.1955' N - 78° 30.3170' W then following the NC/SC border to the shoreline.

II. GENERAL INFORMATION

A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-170.5; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52 and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 3H .0103; 3L .0101 and .0202.

B. It is unlawful to violate the provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 3H .0103.

C. This action is being taken to protect small white shrimp that were forced into these areas by heavy rains.

This proclamation supersedes portions of SH-4-2006, dated April 25, 2006.

This area is projected to open around October 1, 2006 depending on sampling results. A proclamation opening this area will be issued at a later date.
