PUBLIC NOTICE As a result of the recently approved North Carolina Shrimp Fishery Management Plan, several rule changes took effect July 1, 2006 concerning shrimp trawling. All of the changes were described in a news release issued by the Division of Marine Fisheries on June 29, 2006 and can be found on the DMF website, www.ncfisheries.net. The purpose of this public notice is to illustrate some of those changes in shrimp trawling on maps, so that the public is adequately informed of where the new lines are. In the Central District, two areas were closed to all trawling. They include the White Oak River north of Hancock Point and an area along Core Banks from Drum Inlet to Wainwright Island. Lines were placed in the Neuse and Pamlico-Pungo Rivers above which no shrimp trawling is allowed. Crab trawling, however, is still permitted. There are areas in the Neuse and Pamlico rivers and all of Bay River, where headrope lengths are restricted to 90 feet. This public notice is not intended to describe all of the rule changes effective July 1, 2006. The maps are not to be used as an accurate shrimp proclamation map pertaining to all closed waters. It is to delineate the new lines described above so that shrimp trawlers are aware of them. Download a PDF of maps illustrating these areas. |
