RS-2-2008 PROCLAMATION RE: RESEARCH SANCTUARY Louis B. Daniel III, Director, Division of Marine Fisheries, hereby announces that effective at 8:00 A.M., Wednesday, March 12, 2008, the following areas is declared a RESEARCH SANCTUARY and IS closed to all fishing equipment: I. AREA DESCRIPTION CARTERET COUNTY Bogue Sound - An area adjacent to the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores surrounding the aquarium’s dock. This area is approximately 2.05 acres in size and is delineated by four posts and signs as shown on the attached map. The location of the four posts is as follows: 1. 34° 42.1008’ N 76° 49.9700’ W II. GENERAL INFORMATION: A. This proclamation is issued under the authority of N.C.G.S. 113-170.4; 113-182; 113-221.1; 143B-289.52; and N.C. Marine Fisheries Rules 15A NCAC 3H .0103 and 3I .0109. B. It is unlawful to violate provisions of any proclamation issued by the Fisheries Director under his delegated authority pursuant to N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 3H .0103. C. The sanctuary will be used by the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores to develop and demonstrate oyster culture methods, monitor oyster spatfall and expand education efforts. D. N.C. Marine Fisheries Rule 15A NCAC 3I .0109, specifies that these Research Sanctuaries are in effect for one year, subject to renewal at the end of that year. March 10, 2008 |
