Tech Tip #1
A few dealers have asked in regards to backing up their database once it no longer fits on a floppy disk. There are several ways, 1) buy a zip drive for around $80 and 2) use your CD burner software to burn the database onto a CD or 3) purchase a portable storage device like a SanDisk Cruzer Micro Portable Drive. The prize range for a 512 MB to 1 GB device runs about $49.99 - $99.99.
The zip drive is easier but slower. Backing up your database to a zip drive is as simple as selecting the location of the zip drive (usually the E: or F: drive) in the Backup Database screen of the trip ticket software. You can gain more space on your zip disk by compressing the file first.
Most newer computers come with CD burner software so you won't have an additional purchase. The trip ticket software does not come with CD burner software so choosing your D: (or E:) drive as the backup location will not work.
The file you need to backup by burning to a CD is:
C:\Program Files\ Trip Ticket\ TripTick.mdb
The ScanDisk Cruzer Micro Portable Drive is very easy and probably you best source a storage and installation.
Tech Tip # 2
If you are ready to enter another trip ticket, you need not leave the ticket screen. Instead, hold down the Ctrl button and hit the N key. This is a hot key sequence that can also be accessed from the ticket screen menu.
Tech Tip # 3
A faster way to print a trip ticket is to hold down the Ctrl button and hit the P key while on the New Ticket screen. This is a hot key sequence used to print one ticket without having to select from the menu.
Tech Tip # 4
A quick key to backspace the fields on the data entry screen is to hold down the Shift key and hit the tab key.
