Striped Bass Fishery Management Plan
The Striped Bass FMP Process

An Estuarine Striped Bass Fishery Management Plan (FMP) is being revised by the North Carolina Division of Marine Fisheries (NCDMF) and the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC), in cooperation with the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS). Advisory Committees (AC) consisting of representatives from commercial and recreational fishing, and scientific communities will assist in plan development. Stock status will be determined and management measures will be developed for two stock classifications: 1) the Albemarle-Roanoke stock, and 2) the central/southern stocks combined.

The initial draft of the FMP will include a discussion of issues surrounding the fishery, and possible management options to resolve those issues. As this draft is completed, public meetings will be held to provide the public opportunity to comment. A period for public comment is provided at all AC meetings. The NCDMF, NCWRC and the two AC’s will then review and incorporate comments received, as necessary, and produce a final draft of the FMP by the North Carolina Marine Fisheries Commission and the NCWRC.
